Scott’s
Recreation was founded in Manchester, Maine by Scott Lanpher in
1994 as a used power sports dealership. In 2006, Scott’s
Recreation expanded into a brand new 5,000 square foot showroom
on Rt. 202 in Manchester, just over the Augusta City line. The
expansion came about as a result of Scott looking for a new RV
for his family. When he found that he needed to travel a great
distance to get a competitive price, he thought there was an opportunity
to take on selected lines of RV’s and offer great pricing
to the local customers.
The idea worked! Customer reception and interest far exceeded
expectations. Starting with Trail Sport, Trail Cruiser and R-Wagon
by R-Vision (a division of Monaco Coach) and Puma by Palomino
(a division of Forest River) Scott’s Recreation exceeded
the first year’s sales goal in the first three months! Scott
added the same lines to Houlton Power Sports, his power sports
business in Houlton, Maine with equally impressive sales numbers.
Soon other RV manufacturers started contacting Scott to add their
lines. It was at that time Antigua, Homestead, Pine Mountain and
Starcraft folding campers by Starcraft were added. By the end
of 2006, Kodiak, Eco and Tundra, all Dutchmen Manufacturing products,
and Timberlodge and RPM by Adventure Manufacturing were also added
to the product line-up. Already in 2007, Scott’s Recreation
has become the first Weekend Warrior dealer in Maine. Weekend
Warrior is the original “toy hauler” and brings the
number of “toy hauler” products available at Scott’s
Recreation to five.

If you have
driven by Scott’s Recreation lately, you may have noticed
that the lot is full of both new and used travel trailers, 5th
Wheels and Class C Motor homes. In addition to the new product
lines, Scott’s Recreation also buys clean late model units
from all over the country making sure to offer the absolute best
selection of pre-enjoyed RV’s in the area.

The parts
and service side of the business grew as rapidly. In December
of 2006, Scott’s Recreation reached an agreement to purchase
TLC Trailer Parts & Service. This 12-year-old business will
be relocated to the Manchester location in February 2007. Along
with all the inventory and service expertise, the purchase of
TLC will bring a large base of loyal customers to Scott’s
Recreation for their parts, service and propane needs. TLC staff
members will be staying on board and continuing to offer the same
great service and expertise they have for the past 12 years at
their Chelsea location.
Speaking of
parts, in March 2007 a RV parts and accessory “super store”
will be set-up in the showroom offering a complete selection of
RV parts and accessories matched by no other in the area.

Scott’s
Recreation is truly a family owned and operated business. While
Scott is managing the stores and inventory his wife, Holly, can
be found in the accounting office or on the lot in sales. And,
don’t be surprised to hear one of the children, Emily or
Reid, answering the phone or offering to show you a unit or two.
They are very honest and quite the little sales people! Last but
not least, there is Wally. He is a friendly Black Lab who will
greet you at the door. Other than offering you a toy to throw
for him he is very quiet and gentle. We do ask, however, that
you not let him out, as he likes to run!
