Buying the RV isn’t the end-all be-all of your investment. Just like you “accessorize” a home, you’ll want to “accessorize” your RV. This could be a range of items, from things that will undoubtedly make your RVing experience easier to things that will make it feel more like home. Your Maine RV dealer and Maine camper dealer, Scott’s Recreation, has provided some of these upgrades below to help get you started. If you need additional help, then stop by our dealership for a chat with one of our friendly staff. We serve Turner, Manchester, Portland, Lewiston, and Augusta, Maine.

The Essentials

There are certain items that you probably won’t want to skip out on. This includes a separate drinking hose and sewer hose. Your plumbing system is complex and will require some upkeep. This will include draining your holding tanks periodically, which means you’ll need that sewer hose, and preferably a good one. And a drinking hose can help you take advantage of your water supply outside the RV.

Speaking of your water system, you might also want to get a water pressure regulator. When you stay at any given RV campground, you’ll be hooking up to the water supply that comes from the campground. You can’t always guarantee the water will enter the system at a speed or pressure that’s good for your RV’s plumbing, and if the water pressure is too high, it can damage your pipes. A water pressure regulator can help filter the intake to prevent this.

A surge protector performs a similar service, except for your electrical system. It’ll take what’s supplied by the campground and make sure your system isn’t shorted out by a power supply that’s too much for your RV.

Kitchen Accessories

Your kitchen is a hotspot for supplies. There are lots of things you’ll need to keep your family well-fed and happy, but you don’t have all the room in the world to store all this supplies. That’s why we recommend finding cooking utensils and dishware that are stackable or even collapsible. This way, you can bring more supplies without taking up more room.

As an added bonus, we also highly recommend investing in a cast iron pan. You might have initially passed up on them when at the store because they aren’t cheap, but there’s a reason the price tag is so high. They’re going to last you a while, are incredibly versatile, and often make your food taste a lot better.

Safety

Not all upgrades have to be about ease of experience. There are certain safety accessories that can help you sleep a little more soundly at night. For example, for all their many advantages, the locks that come with your RV are not always the sturdiest. Plus, some manufacturers aren’t great at creating locks that are distinguishable from one model to the next, meaning one RV key can open many RVs. Consider getting your locks switched out after you buy the rig so you can be sure you and your family will be safe.

You can also get a tire pressure monitoring system. Monitoring your tires is an essential part of owning any type of vehicle, but trying to keep track of pressure levels using a tire pressure gauge can be time consuming and can only happen when you’re fully stopped. A tire pressure monitoring system can give you real-time updates and immediately alert you to any growing concerns.

This covers some of the basics, but there are plenty of other ways to make your RV life easier and more enjoyable. But first, you need the RV!
